Design is in Marion Murphy Cooney’s blood. The daughter of a painter and the granddaughter of a seamstress, it was almost a foregone conclusion that this Limerick native would hone her talents at the Limerick School of Art & Design.
Marion has been working as a fashion designer since 2005 building up a following both locally and nationally for her eponymous label – that heretofore has been provided as a couture service, strictly on a made to measure basis. Her ‘red carpet’ dresses are frequently worn by Miriam O’Callaghan, Lorraine Keane, Maura Derrane, Karen Koster, Celia Holman-Lee and Lisa Fitzpatrick.
Having started in her kitchen in Limerick approximately 8 years ago she has recently opened her new Atelier in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary where she offers her couture service alongside her new ready to wear MMC collection for AW 2013.
This new ready to wear collection – MMC – has come about due to incessant demands from many loyal customers and requests from some retailers Marion has admired and respected around the country.
Marion had real people, her customers, in mind when she set about developing the collection.
Marion's design approach reflects their lifestyles, their style sensibilities, the importance of fit and quality in providing real value. She has also built in some flexibility into how the pieces mix and match and how a simple sash can completely change the mood or look of a dress or separates combination.
Her new collection is about ‘dressing up’, but in a comfortable, confident way. The MMC collection fabrics are satins, brocades, crepes and others that bring an instant touch of luxury. Marion has put huge work into developing good sizing and an excellent ‘fit’ and gone to one of Italy’s leading makers to have her collection finished to the highest standards. It is made in the same factory as labels like Ellie Saab and Etro.
